The transfer talks between Atalanta and Inter Milan for the sale of Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman are still deadlocked between both clubs as the Bergamo side insist on their €50m asking price for the player after Inter Milan improved their offer to €40m plus €5m in add-ons, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Inter’s opening proposal for the forward had been rejected at €40m, and it was hoped that Tuesday’s meeting between the clubs would lead to significant developments.
According to Football Italia, Inter offered €40m plus €5m in add-ons for Lookman, but Atalanta are still holding out for €50m.
Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia and Fabrizio Romano all point towards the same figures, namely that the latest offer is an improvement at €40m fixed fee plus €5m in add-ons.
Inter President Beppe Marotta and Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi both arrived for a meeting of the Serie A league council on Tuesday, where it was expected that crucial talks for Lookman would take place.
A customary Lega Serie A meeting was held in the city of Milan on Tuesday. The meeting is thought to be of particular interest to Inter and Atalanta, who both had directors in attendance as transfer talks for the 2024 African Player of The Year heats up.
Inter president Marotta has already suggested that the matter will be closed ‘in two to three days’ either way, which means that an offer of €45m plus €5m in bonuses could be enough to strike an agreement.
Sportitalia also reiterate that this has so far been just a verbal offer during the meeting, so Atalanta are waiting to receive the formal written proposal before giving a response.
The negotiations are in full swing, and it remains to be seen if Inter are prepared to make that final push to get Lookman over the line.
According to various outlets in Italy, the Nerazzurri are expected to come back in with a new and improved bid for the 27-year-old.
