RCCG Bans Braids, Heavy Makeup, and False Eyelashes for Clergy Members

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has issued a firm directive prohibiting clergymen from wearing braided hair and clergywomen from using false eyelashes and heavy makeup. Announcing this during the church’s recent annual convention, Pastor Adeboye stated that these contemporary trends among church workers will no longer be tolerated.

“In Yorubaland, the only men who braid their hair are Sango priests, the god of thunder,” Adeboye explained. “Some argue that times have changed and that we should adapt to modern trends, but this mission will not accept such changes. Even after I am gone, this policy will remain.”

He further emphasized that any pastor—especially female pastors—appearing on the altar with heavy makeup resembling that of Nollywood stars will be removed from their position. “You may not like it, but as my children, you cannot defy me. Real men don’t wear makeup because they believe God created them perfectly.”

Pastor Adeboye also criticized the use of false nails, questioning the intent behind them: “If God wanted you to be a bird, He would have given you false nails and eyelashes.”

He encouraged those who enjoy unconventional appearances to repent and embrace modesty. “If anyone asks why these changes are being made, tell them, ‘Daddy GO said so,’” he concluded.
