Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved a supplementary budget allocation of N20 billion aimed at further enhancing and revitalizing the school infrastructure across the state. This latest financial commitment is designed to complement the ongoing massive upgrade of public school facilities initiated by the administration since 2020, building on the strengthened partnership with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
Highlighting this development, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, confirmed that the groundwork for the project has already commenced, with designs underway and implementation set to begin promptly upon approval of the supplementary budget. “His Excellency has directed a dedicated intervention of N20 billion for school infrastructure upgrades. We’ve already started the process, and this will further deepen the gains made in our educational sector,” he said.
Dr. Olohungbebe emphasized that this initiative is an extension of the administration’s significant strides in the education sector, which has seen over 1,254 classrooms constructed or renovated since 2019, alongside several other targeted interventions. “Between 2019 and now, the administration has taken major steps toward improving learning environments. This is not a standalone project but part of our ongoing mission to elevate public education infrastructure,” he added.
Moreover, the new round of investments is set to expand beyond classrooms by including critical facilities such as laboratories and sanitation centers, strategically targeting schools across diverse parts of the state. These efforts aim to complement projects run by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and address remaining infrastructural gaps to foster conducive learning environments for students.
Dr. Olohungbebe underscored the administration’s commitment by acknowledging existing challenges and underlining Governor AbdulRazaq’s proactive approach to education. “While we have made significant progress, there are still areas that require improvement. This additional allocation reflects the governor’s vision and determination to ensure that every child in Kwara has access to quality educational facilities,” he concluded.
This injection of funds underscores Kwara State’s continued dedication to transforming its educational landscape and improving human capital development, positioning it as a front-runner in educational reform in Nigeria.
