The Ebonyi State Government has imposed a sweeping ban on house and land agents to address the rising cost of rents across the state. Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru stated that property agents have become a major driver of the ongoing housing crisis.
He accused some agents of exploiting desperate tenants by charging as much as ₦500,000 merely to show houses and shops they do not even own.
“The exploitation must stop. From next year, no agent is permitted to collect any money from anyone seeking accommodation in Ebonyi State,” declared Governor Nwifuru.
This bold move aims to protect residents from exploitation and bring relief to the housing market in Ebonyi State.
