Malcolm-Jamal Warner dies after drowning in Costa Rica

Tributes have poured in from across the entertainment world, including from Questlove, Jennifer Hudson, Taraji P. Henson, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Magic Johnson.

Malcolm-Jamal Warner, best known for portraying Theo Huxtable on the American sitcom The Cosby Show, has died aged 54.

According to local authorities, Warner drowned over the weekend while on holiday in Costa Rica.

The incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 2:00pm local time (8:00pm GMT), while he was swimming at Playa Grande in the town of Cocles, located in the Limón province.

Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Agency stated he appeared to have been swept out to sea by a strong ocean current.

Bystanders reportedly pulled Warner from the water and brought him to shore, where members of the Costa Rican Red Cross attempted to revive him. However, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Warner rose to fame for his role as the son of Bill Cosby in The Cosby Show, which aired from 1984 to 1992 and became a cultural phenomenon.

Warner is survived by his wife and daughter.
