The Nigerian Army has firmly dismissed recent online reports falsely alleging that bandits overran military troops and seized six General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs) along with over 30,000 rounds of ammunition in Obanla, Kwara State. The Army labeled the publication as misleading, stressing that the claims are completely unfounded and designed to misinform the public.
Troops of the 148 Battalion (Rear), actively engaged in clearance operations across Kogi and Kwara States, continue to achieve significant successes in their mission. In a recent operation along the Kwara–Ekiti border, the troops established a strong blocking position, successfully neutralizing two armed bandits and recovering two brand-new AK-47 rifles.
At no point were any Army positions compromised, nor were weapons or ammunition lost to criminal groups as falsely reported. The Nigerian Army condemned the online article as a deliberate attempt to undermine the resolve and morale of its personnel working tirelessly to restore peace and security in the region.
Reaffirming its commitment to defeating all forms of criminality, the Nigerian Army urged the public to disregard the baseless claims and instead support military efforts by providing timely and accurate information crucial to ongoing operations.
The Army further emphasized its readiness to sustain operational momentum until all criminal networks in Kogi, Kwara, and neighboring states are fully dismantled, ensuring lasting peace for the affected communities.
