The controversy originated from a video clip in which Senator Ashiru was quoted saying that “45% of Ibolo votes are crucial for any senatorial victory” in the district. Critics interpreted this as an attempt to sideline the Igbomina political influence. However, a detailed statement released by Olaitan Adeyanju, the Senator’s Legislative Aide on Media and Community Relations, clarified the full context of these remarks.
The statement explained that the comments were made during the Offa Strategic Retreat—a key political forum focused on encouraging active participation and unity among the people of Offa. Senator Ashiru’s intention was to motivate increased political engagement from the community, not to diminish or exclude any ethnic groups within the senatorial district.
Emphasizing his deep connection to the Igbomina people, the statement reminded the public that Senator Ashiru’s heritage traces back to Ajase-Ipo in Igbomina land, underscoring his longstanding commitment to the area.
